"I have had an amazing time whilst being in Nepal. Although the culture took some adjusting too, I found it also helped me to look at my own culture aswell. Rajesh and all his family are so welcoming from the moment you arrive, that you can't help but feel like you are at home. I also loved the school that I was placed at and will miss each and everyone of the children and their keenness to learn. Although I stayed in a room on the school site and not with a host family, I felt part of a family with the children who stayed at the hostel.I would recommend people to get involved with this programme as the benefits are numerous for the individual and for the children. I cant wait to return to this beautiful country and explore more. I would like to thank Rajesh and his family for their hospitality and for always being approachable. I would also like to thank the school for having me and looking after us."

"The Volunteer program was great! The orientation week helped me to learn more about Nepal and we had a lot of fun with our volunteer group. The three weeks that I volunteered in an orphan house was an experience that I will never forget. I loved helping the kids with their homework, bring them to school and playing games with them. And it's amazing how you can communicate with the children without even s peak their language fluently. I learned a lot, not only about myself but also to live in a total different environment."

"The Volunteer Work Nepal! Program is great start to enjoy your adventures in Nepal. You get some experiences in Nepali language(learning the language from local men/women, best way to learn), politics, history, food and culture, traditional clothes, scavenger hunt( go to the local market and get some traditional nepali things). While this program you will go to the tailor to make some beautifully and exceptionally clothes. It’s your own choice what kind of colours, with our without trousers. Last but not least you get a Yoga introduction lesson from a real yoga master. You will learn some traditional yoga moves and some moves to get a better health. After the whole program you could save yourself in the great country Nepal!"

"Volunteer Nepal provides an excellent insight to the Nepali culture and allows volunteers to learn from and experience the Nepali way of life. The programme is well run and I felt supported throughout by Rajesh and others involved. The induction is extensive with lots of advise, information and language learning. The volunteer placements are a great challenge and helped me learn a lot about my strengths and my weaknesses. The excursions are great fun and allow you to see Nepal and its beautiful landscape – particularly the village trekking which was a really amazing insight into the traditional Nepali villagers lifestyle that not many tourists are lucky enough to see. "

"Volunteer Nepal provides a first hand introduction into Nepali culture and way of life, then provides the diving board to plunge straight into that way of life!!! If a challenging experience of a remarkable country is what you're looking for, then Cultural Destination Nepal is the provider. It will tease every emotion, even drive you mad with frustration at time's, but all in all open a side of you're character you never knew existed. Much thanks to Rajesh and family for their constant support throughout the program, and making my experience a remarkable insight into this wonderful country!!!! DHANYABAHD!!!!!! "

"I was initially attracted to the idea of coming to Nepal to do voluntary work, and looked at various organizations to see which kind of programs they offered, and CDN seemed like the most rewarding and interesting voluntary placement on offer. The further I got into the program, the richer and more insightful the experiences of the Nepali culture became. I've met many people through this program I would have otherwise never met, and had experiences I feel I would have never had had I not come through CDN. Through the program you meet many locals of all different backgrounds, and are able to see how Nepali people live and how different it is to many other cultures. I think this program works so well because it puts just as much emphasis and importance to learning about the culture yourself and immersing yourself in it as well as the volunteering, so in a sense it's a real exchange of cultures. I especially found this in the village excursion phase, where you're living with traditional families for a week. The actual teaching can be tough. If I were to do the program again, I would try to prepare myself with lesson plans and maybe bring a TEFL or ESL teaching handbook with me. But I think the challenges you face in the classroom, and overcoming these challenges, can be very rewarding and confidence boosting. However, Rajesh is flexible and keeps an open mind, so I never felt like I was locked into the program with a contract or anything. The way the organization is run, through Rajesh's home, I believe gives the volunteers comfort. As a volunteer, you are treated as a member of the family and this, combined with meeting other volunteers, meant I never felt isolated when I was out of Kathmandu teaching, and that I always had a place to go if I felt down or that it was getting too much."
Mr. Nathan Bather (Nirmal)

"The whole volunteer program has been such a great experience! From the start, the welcome, the introduction phase, the meeting other volunteers, the host families, the country, the schools, the teaching, … It was hard working and bumping into my boundaries too… But it was all worth it. I really had the feeling that I could mean something and this experience has meant so much for me as well…
When I started this program I thought I would be teaching… I never thought I myself would learn so much!"

"The decision to participate in CDN's volunteer program has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and I would recommend it to anyone without any hesitation. Anyone at least who is interested in getting to know another culture at a level profoundly deeper than that of the bus tourist, and who has energy, a positive attitude, and an enthusiasm for sharing.
I have visited many countries and only gotten a marginally better experience of them than can be gained from postcards and a corresponding restaurant, but this time in Nepal has given me a deeper exposure to the country than I would have gained in a hundred bus tours. In addition, the people you deal with in the world of tourism...don't always give the most authentic feel of the people in the country. Whenever I passed a tour group, maybe being accosted by taxi drivers and followed by children asking for money and candy, I wanted to invite them to come with me to meet the incredible students of class X that I was on my way to teach. And there is no hotel, no restaurant that can give anything approaching the experience of our host family. The genuine friendship, warmth, and hospitality we found in Nepal will stay with me as a blessing for the rest of my life.
And the CDN program! Rajesh and his family are worth the trip by themselves! From the first moment we stepped out of Tribhuvan International Airport we knew we had someone who could help us with anything we needed help with, from recommendations to reservations, and much more than that, friendship."
Mr. Tim (Tilak) Tendick

"The CDN program is an ideal opportunity to challenge one's self in a variety of meaningful ways which ultimately lead to personal growth and learning. Participants are able to return the warmth and wisdom of the Nepali people through service in schools, orphanages, and elsewhere. Rajesh is extremely supportive and somehow never becomes annoyed with all of our questions, concerns, and pleas for help with this or that. But this is the way of the Nepali people – your pain is their pain. I highly recommend this program."
Mr. Richard (Ram) Zielaskiewicz

"The volunteer program was one of the most satisfying and fun experiences I had in Nepal. They do an amazing job of teaching you about the culture, history and daily life of the Nepalese and give you all the tools to assimilate into the culture as an individual. I would recommend this program for anyone interested in visiting Nepal."

"Participating in Cultural Destination Nepal was an absolutely incredible experience. I decided to head to Asia for a year immediately after completely high school, and this was a fabulous way to begin my trip. The orientation phase really helped me to understand the Nepalese culture in which I was living for the following four months. The program was set up so that I got to live with a Nepalese family, and this provided me with incredible insight into their way of life. I found working at the school to be very interesting, and the recreation phase was a fantastic way to finish things off. Throughout the whole time I spent in Nepal I did many things I never imagined myself doing, and I met many amazing people that I know I will keep in touch with for years to come. Thank you Cultural Destination Nepal for providing me with this phenomenal experience!"

"I met Rajesh on a bike trip across America in 2000. After spending 10 weeks cycling together Rajesh painted a picture of Nepal for me. At that point I was intrigued and determined to make it to Nepal and volunteer with his organization. It took me 10 years to make it there, but once I arrived it was as if we seen each other much sooner than that. From our arrival at the airport we were made to feel like a part of the CDN family. I believe that Nepal could be a difficult transition for anyone, but through CDN's cross cultural orientation and the kindness of Rajesh and Bandana, it was a relatively easy transition. I found the combination of the cultural temple tours and the language training made it easier to connect with the native Nepalese people. Even though many Nepalese people in the Kathmandu valley spoke English they always found it very flattering when I tried to use the language. It often became a very good tool at breaking the ice with new people. After the initial cross cultural training was complete CDN kept in constant touch with us verifying that our teaching experience was satisfying and they were a good bridge at translating our concerns and desires as a volunteer teacher. This helped us tame the waters with our principle due to the cultural differences and norms that we experienced in our volunteering scheme. The other aspect that we felt comforting with the program was the fact that we were able to come back on occasion the CDN headquarters when we felt like we needed a break from the grind of teaching every day. This gave me a many needed breaks from the difficult task of teaching numerous kids a load of hours during the course of weeks of volunteering."

"Although I have taught ESL summer classes previously in foreign countries, this is my first experience staying with host families. This feature of the program adds an incredible depth to the experience of learning about the country and the culture. I cannot say enough about how well run the program is and the 2 week orientation phase is very comprehensive providing a firm foundation for the volunteer phase.
The Director, Rajesh Shrestha, is very supportive and available to volunteers during every aspect of the program and is committed to making the experience for both volunteers and the schools a rewarding experience for all."

"As my journey here in Nepal has come to an end I am filled with feelings of gratitude and appreciation for this program and culture. Before arriving in Nepal I had no idea what expect. I have been pleasantly surprised as Nepal has been so welcoming and kind to me. Rajesh-ji and Bandana-ji have gone out of their way to make me feel safe and at home here. I have learned so much about the culture, language, food, schools, religions and beauty of this country. I am leaving here feeling overwhelmed by the love and kindness extended towards me from all of the people I have met here. I am truly thankful for this experience and the memories which I will continue to enjoy."

"I was really nervous, curious and excited before I started the program. I didn't know anything about Nepal and I was going to become an English Teacher in this country. The Volunteer Nepal! program was everything I needed to feel comfortable, answer any questions regarding the culture, learn about the past and present history of the country and it's people. Best of all, it has the most caring, welcoming and genuine people running the program! When you have people who care about you and want you to really experience Nepal to the max and in the best possible way, Volunteer Nepal through Cultural Destination Nepal does this 110%. The Director makes volunteering in a foreign country so easy. Just show up and he and his family will make sure you are taken care of. From teaching you how to make traditional foods to setting up your teaching details at a personally selected school. In a word, this experience was AMAZING ! I would do it again and highly recommend it to anyone!"

My experience through CDN was unforgettable to say the least. The program is an excellent way to really experience life in Nepal and get immersed in the culture. The mixture of knowledge gained, experiences in the volunteering stage, and adventurous side trips makes this program the success that it is. From start to finish during my time in Nepal, Rajesh was more than helpful with any of my questions or concerns and he is gracious to open up his home and other resources to me and other volunteers during the program. I left Nepal with not only a new appreciation and love for the culture and people, but also with new friends and plans to return in the future.

"Where do I begin, there are so much to say and so many memories of a life time for me to share them with you. Nepal is a beautiful place to be if you are looking for new challenges, be non judgmental, accept differences eager to learn and working with different communities. As for me, these are what I am looking for to embrace different cultures and learning cross culture skills. Respecting and understanding etiquettes and mannerisms and how people can relate with each other when language and communication barriers are a factor.
People of Nepal, whether they are old, young they are just beautiful people. During the 3 months of my stay I have so many friends and families that are so dear to me. My first family who have showed and shared their hospitality to me how can I forget them, dherai dherai dhayanbad to Rajesh and Bandana. My other family, the Sharma family whom I stayed for 2 weeks during my orientation. I was welcomed and just felt like I was at my own home, I am grateful and thankful.
While I was at school and the orphanage teaching, I have fall in love with all my beautiful, beautiful, children/students. These children would do whatever they been asked to do and I love them all so much.
While I was trekking, met so many villages people with big, wide smiles and the beautiful wrinkles on the face that shouldn't be wiped off . They have showed willingness, offering help and shared their outback skills. I have noticed, language is not a barrier, I mean, not much English or no English at all doesn't matter, use your body language and your facial expression, always help. Infact, I have been and feel like an actress with these expressions..ha..ha..ha..ha...
I must say that I have fall in love with Nepal, I would like to be back again. The whole experiences have given me many things and I hope I have given something back (especially my children/students).
My own experiences have given me an opportunity to have better understanding of my outlook, an awareness of adapting oneself to different environment and culture, be more tolerant and accepting. I am more determined than ever, indeed I have empower myself with strong commitment towards similar endeavors in the future.
I am glad that I have followed what my heart told me and went ahead with it. So, what are you waiting for? Just go and have the experience of your lifetime.
I have been very careful and thorough with my selections. Prior to my decision, I enquired and happy with the solutions. After a very careful thought and trust in what I want to do I just went ahead. CDN programme was chosen randomly when I surfed the net. I was taken by surprised with the service and it met my expectations. I would personally recommend it to anyone who has any doubt at all. Go for it, you'll be looked after and you'll be happy with the outcome. Hey! I did!"

"I had a wonderful time in Nepal and it is a real culture shock to be back home! I am a medicine student in the Netherlands and I have been the health teacher on Children's Model High School in Baluwatar, Kathmandu. After six weeks of teaching, I also visited the Balmandir Orphanage, where I was responsible for child care. This was impressive, but it was nice to be a volunteer here! I really liked Nepal. The people are really friendly. I stayed in a host family for two weeks they treated me as a member of their family. Kathmandu is a crowded city, but the hills around this city are beautiful! I visited Bhaktapur, Chitwan National Park and did some hiking and rafting. This country is beautiful! I am really satisfied with Cultural Destination Nepal. The organization is really good. The orientation program is various and really interesting. It is nice that Rajesh Shrestha is always in contact with you and you can call him with any problems. I am glad that I experienced Nepal with this organization!"

"My time in Nepal has given me experiences and memories that will stay with me forever. The family I stayed with were so welcoming and friendly, so eager to share their culture and to learn about mine too, but much more than that, to be my home, my family, my love and support. The immersion in another way of life, another religion, another way of looking at family and societal values has given me so much. The students at the school are so keen to learn from you, they want to know everything! Always wanting to learn more, to absorb what you have to offer and so generous in their nature, taking me on trips to see the local temples and teaching me about their country, their language and customs with energy, enthusiasm and an obvious love for their country. The trekking and jungle parts of the trip were also extremely memorable, the view of life outside the city is eye-opening and also life-changing when you realize how much we have and want in our lives and yet don't appreciate nearly as much as we should. I'm going to go home and live a much simpler life I think and enjoy just living instead of always wanting more. The 2 hour elephant back safari was an experience I never thought I would have, we got within a few metres of a very fat looking crocodile - even the elephant was scared! I will never forget the people that I met and the amazing experiences I had in Nepal. I was so sad to leave and I will definitely stay in contact with my family here ( my host mother now has an email address ☺) . I take away with me an experience I will never forget and some life lessons that have helped me to grow as a person and have shaped my outlook on this world. Thanks so much ☺"

"Volunteering in Nepal was a really great experience. It was fun to be able to see the similitude and the difference between the Nepali culture and the inuit culture. It was definitely a culture shock when I arrive in Kathmandu for the first time, but Rajesh knows how to make you feel at ease.
Everything is so different and you really have to take your time and adjust to this new culture. It's really a lesson for us to come here and see the smile on the face's kids. I really think we should learn about them and not them learn about us.
This experience is not only volunteering, it's also about the whole Nepali culture which I really appreciate. And the highlight of my trip was the trekking part in Kathmandu Valley, because it is where I saw the Nepal I was expected. I'm thankful to all the people I met in Nepal. I spent 3 months here and I really want to come back and learn more. Pheri bethola Nepal!

"In my life there has never been a time in which I learned as much as during my 5 month stay in Nepal. I learned a lot about myself, sure, as it was my first long journey alone and I will definitely return home changed. I learned a lot about a different culture, I saw the limitations of our Western way of life and I will definitely bring home some of the ideas of Eastern culture and religion - personally, as well as in family life and for society. It was a time of change for me."

"I feel lucky and privileged to have found this program. Not only have I gotten the opportunity to really see Nepal, but also I have been able to feel it. I have had the chance to learn about another culture from the inside, and to experience its many aspects, the difficult as well as the romantic. I have gotten to share my own culture, and in this process I have learned and discovered so much about my own country that without this new perspective I would not have been able to see. I have made close personal relationships that have allowed me to experience Nepali life in the most true and genuine way available to a foreigner. I have learned so much from this. I do not know how this knowledge will change me when I return home, but I have felt many times during my stay here, and I am now sure, that this was truly a lifetime experience, one that has changed the way I see things, and one that I will never forget.

"Rajesh gave me the experience of a lifetime through 'Volunteer
Nepal!'. I chose Nepal as the place to volunteer largely because,
after reading about other volunteer opportunities in SE Asia, I liked
the way this program in particular was set-up, with a combination of
cultural and language training, volunteer time, and adventure
activities, all for the right price. Rajesh treated us like
family but also ran the program professionally, and he was always
just a phone call away if we needed anything. I would recommend (and
have been recommending) this program to friends and family since I've
returned."

"When I came to Nepal I was a fat person when I left I was thin but
my brain has been growing and growing. Everyday when you wake up in
this beautiful country you are sure to learn or see things you have
never done or seen before. I tried to give the students some new
knowledge but they gave my much more! The first day I went to the
village I thought I will fell as a visitor but I felt like home! This
program is an eye-opener for a new interesting culture."

"Volunteer Nepal! was the most enriching experience of my life. I came to
Nepal to learn about the culture, and hopefully teach the children of my
school a little about English and my culture, but I ended up learning so
much about myself and the meaning of family and friendship. I would highly
recommend this program looking to expand their world view and have fun doing
it."

"A truly wonderful experience from start to finish. Never a dull moment;
something new to learn and experience everyday. Nepal is a land of great
contrast, lovely people and beautiful scenery. I hope the young generation
will work constructively to maintain their culture and to solve
environmental issues, which threaten the natural beauty. I look forward to
another visit in the future. The programme includes useful and fun
preparation, challenging and varied Volunteer Phase, which requires
flexibility and creativity, and thoroughly enjoyable recreational phase.
Highly recommended."

"This Program was wonderful. It was an experience that I would never give
up, and would definitely do again in the future. The entire program is so
well organized but still leaves you with plenty of freedom and time to go on
your own adventures when you want to. It's rewarding in many ways and I
think I learned as much from my students as they learned from me, if not
more. The only thing I wish I could do now is stay longer."

From the perspective of throwing us in the deep end of nepali culture and life, experiencing it from the very inside of village and family life, this programme is spectacular. It makes us volunteers rely on ourselves, which is the way it should be, and get outside of our comfort zones, which are far too comfortable here in the west. It has given me a different perspective on my life, and on the world and all that is in it, for the rest of my life. I know it has changed me - I can already feel and see the differences in my life, now that I'm home again.

The last three months for me have been beyond words. I have learnt many new things about Nepal, the world, and myself. And not only have I learnt about them, but I have also experienced these things for myself. CDN gave me the language tools and basic knowledge I needed to see Nepal; to live amongst Nepalis. Rajesh is a fun teacher and always 'take[s] it easy'. He and his family are truly kind and welcoming people (much like most Nepalis) and are a pleasure to live around. Perhaps I could have volunteered in Nepal and even lived in a home-stay without CDN, however I don't know if the experience would have been appreciated as much as without the language skills and cultural understanding taught during the orientation. Also, it was nice to have some support during the volunteer phase. The recreation activities were good fun and well organized. I am extremely satisfied with my Nepali experience and I think that I owe a good deal of that satisfaction to CDN. Thanks a lot Rajesh.

CDN was completely responsible for the fascinating, eye-opening, challenging, and extremely rewarding experience I had in Nepal. The orientation and the teaching placement, especially, provided me with completely unique experiences and opportunities I never would have had if I had been an ordinary tourist here. Rajesh's guidance and care throughout my time here was priceless: it made things that would have been challenging extremely smooth and successful.
After I finished my teaching placement and fell into normal Nepal travel, I remember looking out of the tourist bus window at a typical Nepali scene: mud houses, schoolchildren in uniforms, men in topis on the porch, women harvesting potatoes in the fields. I suddenly became acutely aware that I was viewing this scene with priveleged
eyes: I had taught these children, spent the night in these houses, chatted with those men, and worked beside those women. I understood these images on a deeper level and was grateful. I learned so much about Nepal and it's people, about culture, community, society, politics, travel, development, volunteerism, and truly experienced the quote written prominently on our pre-departure literature: "Nepal is here to change you, not for you to change it." What an amazing country and what an amazing life experience.

Volunteering in Nepal allowed me to realize that I would be learning a lot more from others through the experience than I would do in giving and teaching . I appreciated the kind and generous people who helped me and although the teaching was a difficult aspect, the programme was well-organised. I felt integrated and accepted into the Nepalese culture. A wonderful experience!

I can honestly say that going on the Volunteer!
Nepal program is the best thing I've ever done for myself as a person. The program is fantastic, allowing volunteers to get to grips with the culture and religions, get involved with the community and make a difference, while having the ceaseless support of Rajesh and his family. The activities are well run, with the orientation program providing a great opportunity to learn some of the lingo and visit the places of significance, while building a network with other volunteers and acquaintances. By living with a family, you get to experience the culture first-hand before becoming engrossed in school life.
It sounds such a cliché, but my volunteer placement was the most challenging but rewarding part of the experience. By becoming immersed in the local community, I was able to experience things I never would have done as a tourist, and to form meaningful relationships with everyone from the kids to the school kitchen staff. For each lesson I taught I learnt several knew things not only about the country I was living in, but also about myself.

I would like to say that the experience I had at Cultural Destination Nepal not only met but totally exceeded my expectations. It can really be nerve wracking to go halfway around the world and not be sure what you are going to encounter on the other side. From the moment of my arrival Rajesh was very welcoming and kind to me, and throughout the experience he was always accessible to me and everyone else on the program. Don't let his serious demeanor in his photo fool you, once you meet him he never stops laughing and is certainly someone you can go to for anything, big or small. The program was really well organized; I felt that everything I learned and got the opportunity to participate in was well worth the program fees. Rajesh and everyone else I met in Nepal went out of their way to make me feel comfortable. Not only did I immensely enjoy the program, Nepal is certainly one of the most breathtaking and awe inspiring places I have ever been. I believe that there are few places like it on earth. Plan to stay longer then the time you volunteer so you can really see it There can be so many challenges when traveling but by going through Cultural Destination Nepal, I feel a lot of those challenges were addressed and minimized. I would recommend it to anyone! Please feel free to visit my blog on my experiences with CDN at www.travelpod.com/members/jeschill.

I was very impressed with the Volunteer Work Nepal Program. I thought the introduction phase to the program was very effective in preparing me for the challenges I was going to face throughout the volunteering phase. The combination of lectures, field trips, hands on activities and basic language training allowed me to immerse myself in the experience. As for the actual volunteering phase of the program, I found this to be the most rewarding part of my experience. This was not only because of the sense of fulfillment I received personally from doing what I was doing but also because of what I was learning not only about the Nepali culture but also about myself personally. Though at many times during this phase I was faced with many challenges and difficulties upon completion and reflection on this, I found that this made the experience that much more rewarding in the end. The personal highlight of this phase was spending time with my family, particularly my host brother, and interacting with the surrounding community. The final phase of the program, the recreation phase, was also a nice conclusion to the program. It allowed me to see a different part of the country and to see the diversity of the environment, the people and the culture, though obviously not at such a personal level as in Thimi (my volunteer location).

It's quite hard to give my impression on the Program in a few lines. I have had so many impressions and experiences that a few lines would not cover them all. In general I found the Program great. It provided me warm welcome to Nepal, a proper introduction to the culture and language and an excellent service during my stay.
Because of these features the Program made sure I didn't feel like a tourist who only knows the country from the outside, but like an explorer who gets to learn about the country from the inside as well. This is knowledge I will keep with me during my whole life, rather than only the photos in a photo album. The Program provided a good balance between working and leisure (activities like rafting, and hiking).
I want to thank you for making this time in Nepal fantastic. During my stay I have learnt a lot and enjoyed even more, every minute of it. I am thankful for all your cares and warmth. Together with your family I felt "at home" in Nepal, which made this journey a great experience! I will never forget to keep up my "strong Will"!

It gave an excellent experience through the combination of typically Nepali hospitality and guidance. Rajesh is an excellent and sincere host in all regards, bringing me into his family and providing all the contacts and everything I needed to make the most of the teaching, and village experience. To anyone who visits this program I would definitely recommend volunteering in the rural areas, and make the most of the language training, it's the best tool to experience Nepal.

"It is only now I'm leaving Nepal that I'm beginning to realise what an unforgettable experience the last two months has been. The volunteering phase has been challenging, amusing, exciting, sometimes frustrating but overall extremely enjoyable. With the help and guidance of theVolunteer Nepal programme I feel I have really learnt a great deal about this amazing country, its diverse peoples, its religions and its fascinating culture. I highly recommend the programme to anyone who is interested and thank Rajesh and his family for making me feel so welcome."

I really enjoyed my time in Nepal. I thank that to this volunteering program! Nepal is a beautiful country and the people are all very nice! I really enjoyed the volunteering phase too. Not because I am a good teacher, some classes gave me hard times, but because of the warmth and openness from the children, I felt home at school en started enjoying my time there.
I think the whole program is pretty good. It's very important to have a good orientation before you start working as a volunteer! I enjoyed learning a bit about the Nepali languages and the culture. It appeared to be very useful to know something about the culture where you'll be living in for over two months.
The volunteering phase was really great.
Everything was taken care of; the accommodation was good and the food to. The last phase was definitely a good one. When I was teaching, I felt very responsible, not only in school time, but also after school when I was with the girls for hostel. In Chitwan the only one I had to look after, was me. It was really relaxing!
The program in general is very good; I want to thank you for letting me be a part of it!

Living everyday life with a Nepali family is a wonderful way to really learn about the country and culture. The program did a great job preparing me to easily fit in with my host family and community and begin to learn and practice the language. The background training was well presented, very informative. Also a lot of fun to actually visit the historic sites in the Kathmandu Valley. Even though my stay was during a rather tense time politically, Rajesh made sure I was still able to safely enjoy the highlights of the Nepal and I had experiences and met some extraordinary people I will never forget. It isn't every day that one gets the opportunity to sit on the clay floor of a kitchen sharing rice pudding with a villager you just met on the path or to help a farmer plow his field behind two oxen with the Annapurna Range as a backdrop. This program has the right mix of adventure, education and volunteering to make you feel like you have been a part of people's lives and not just a tourist. I came away richly rewarded from the experience.

For me it was a great chance to discover both - the daily life of a Nepali family and the daily life of a Nepali teacher. It was interesting to compare the two - so different - cultures in general and in details, in theory and practice.
It was easy to jump into the big ocean. Nepal having a group of international volunteers and an always helpful partner like Rajesh with you.

"I loved my experience in Nepal, and would highly recommend
the program to anyone. I grew as an individual, faced the challenges that
came my way, and most of all, had a great time. Hearing a new culture
and language was very exciting for me. I met many wonderful people in
Nepal who I will miss dearly.
Also, Rajesh, you take such great care of your volunteers and I want to
thank you for that." Ms. Jenny Hillman

"This program is absolutely awesome, it is everything
it promises to be and more. But it is as much up to you as anything, the
teaching is what you make of it, if you're prepared to endure a few challenging
times then it is one of the most rewarding and wonderful things you can
do. My host family is like a second real family to me, I will miss them
and my kids so much." Mr. Alex Vail

"This program has been a great opportunity for a unique
cultural experience. I have enjoyed every moment, the time has gone much
too quickly. The Nepali/cultural classes at the Nature club was a great
introduction to the country, and good to make friends for the duration
of the time here. The extra activities of trekking, rafting and Chitwan,
as well as touring Kathmandu allowed and experience of much more than
the average tourist would. And the teaching was so well organised, it
was 2 months and will never forget and always cherish." Mr. Alex

"Great! Loved it sooooo much. It was definetely an
experience that will stay with me for a long time. The support from Rajesh
has been great throughout the program, and all 4 of us really appreciated
it. As for teaching, it was definetly at times challenging especially
at the short, but as time went on I discovered new more effective teaching
methods which really helped. I definetely struggled with the younger classes
who had great difficulty understanding some of the things I said but at
the some time recognise the difficulties of an 18 year teacher teaching
high school students. So on the whole, my placement was very well orgainsed
- I also loved the school, the area of Bode, and the experiences altogether."

"The volunteer program has been excellent. The program
combines a good mix of learning about he cultures, customs, language and
life of Nepal, along with a chance to see many parts of Nepals natural
beauty, in Chitwan and around Kathmandu, and see places of culture, like
the temples and stupas around Kathmandu. Also the teaching is a good chance
to put the language training and lessons in the 2 weeks initiation into
practice. The program is well run and carried out and I am very glad I
saw Nepal as part of the program." Mr. Jono Tyler

"The programme was fantastic, it was a real amazing eye opener and cultural experience to live with a local family. Teaching was great it certainly had its challenges, especially with the language barrier in the younger classes but the older classes were great. I think the thing that changed most was the children learnt to be creative, that they could actually think on their own and could enjoy themselves at school. The other teachers and principle were very supportive and always willing to help. My confidence improved a lot and my teaching styles changes as I learnt from my successes and failures. Probably the biggest challenge was the lack of privacy but that comes part in parcel with the culture. The locals were lovely and I got to know them well and create many fun memories. The school was very basic and small but pretty much had everything that I needed. I brought a resh teaching approach rather than the straight recital teaching and the other teachers were very interested. In terms of actual volunteer work for me it was a great experience that I loved but I don't know how much the school needed a volunteer, the valley is quite rich and I think village schools outside of the valley would both need and benefit a lot more from volunteer teachers..although they would probably also need the volunteers to speak a higher level of nepali.

“The Volunteer Nepal! program is great! Combining service, culture
and adventure, the volunteers can truly taste most, if not all, of what
Nepal has to offer. Moreover, it’s a great introduction to realizing
your own interests and passions. Whenever you desire to pursue service
or mountain climbing, this program provides avenues and opportunities.
Personally, I found it at first difficult to balance community service
and personal adventure. But as the moths revealed to me, they are often
times one and the same.

"The program introduced me to the Nepalese way of living
in such a way that I felt part of a family. However, Rajesh and Bandana
recognised that although we wanted to experience the culture and life
in Nepal we also need people who understand the homes of their volunteers.
The environment has been relaxed and allowed me the freedom to explore
at my will. This has been an amazing experience for me and CDN Nepal gave
me the chance to see more of Nepal than coming as a "Tourist"
would have." Mr. Michael Best

only a week in Nepal I felt I had been here a month - I had seen and experienced

" I had a very good and interesting time in Nepal, and
I can highly recommend Cultural Destination Nepal. However my advice is
to plan to spend some extra time travelling (trekking; Tibet ….) in addition
to the recreational phase of the program. The mountains are just too beautiful!
You can do that before the program starts, after the introduction phase
or after the volunteering phase. Just talk to Rajesh.
With English not being my first language, I was a bit worried about the
teaching, but I think as long as you are able to speak fluently in everyday
situations, you should be okay, even if English is a foreign language
for you.
It is possible to do volunteer teaching here in Nepal without any organization.
But I'm not sure whether that's a wise thing to do. With Cultural Destination
Nepal you get a good introduction phase, Rajesh knows the schools he sends
his volunteers to, in case there are any problems, there is always somebody
to help you, and you are not by yourself, but normally with other people
who are on the same program. If you decide to go with an organization,
I can highly recommend Cultural Destination Nepal. I haven't met a volunteer
who paid less, but quite a few who paid more and got less.

Rajesh and CDN Nepal have given me the gift of satisfaction to a degree that nobody could've thought possible. Rajesh is the most unconditionally patient, supportive, and professional man I have met, plus his inside connections open pathways for experience that an outsider could never know about; take for example the 7 day hike through his countryside birthplace. I had the opportunity to live with the Pradhans, who I came to love as my own family
within the five months I stayed in Kathmandu, and in my experience the homestay element of the program is where you find the real reason for travelling. The teaching was intimidating at first, as I'd never worked with children or thought much of my own English speaking, but the kids are super-respectful and in most cases the schools are thrilled to have native speakers help out. Another huge bonus is the group of people I got to learn with, the other CDN Nepal applicants, most of whom I bonded with immediately and keep in touch with today. The memories and the stories I collected while in Nepal are the kind that are so good you can't tell them to anyone who wasn't there to share it with you, and I'll always be in Rajesh's debt for working as tirelessly as he does to make this program everything it is.

Ahhh, where to begin? I think using Volunteer Nepal as a means of locating
& establishing a school, gaining Nepali language training, and having
a genuine and real Emerson into the Kathmandu & Nepal community, turned
out to be a good choice for me. There are hundreds of different volunteer
opportunities in Nepal, but I think very few of them allow a person to
see much outside the tourism industry. Although for much of my four months
in Nepal I felt like I was on my own separated from volunteer Nepal living
and working in school, I always knew if I needed anything, Rajesh would
be able to help me out. I also know I would not have been able to experience
parts of Nepal most other visitors do not see.
As far as my volunteer experience, I have to say at times it was very
challenging, but I would not have wanted it to be other wise. This is
one of the best parts of coming to Nepal for an extended period of time
and working dealing with many different situations you other wise would
be never have to deal with. I loved my school. I lived in the student
hostel in a room w/ 8 other children.
I taught for 5-6 hours a day. I met people who I know I will be in touch
with for much of the rest of my life, and feel as though they are extended
family. Do I think Volunteer Nepal is for everyone? No. I think it is
for a person who want to experience something they could not imagine experiencing;
someone who wants a challenge culturally and emotionally; and someone
who is inspired and motivated even in trying situations. This type of
person will have one of the greatest experiences of their lives.

I think it's a great program for anyone who

This might be re-titled, 'How the Internet changed my life'. One day whilst cruising the Internet at work (during lunch, of course!), and looking at links to various sites dealing with Nepal, I came across a reference to an organization called Cultural Destination Nepal (CDN Nepal). For a programme was offered which combined an introductory 2 weeks of cultural and language training, followed by a placement of voluntary employment for a period, concluding with rafting trip and wildlife park visit.
After many visits to the country over a period of more than 20 years, predominantly for trekking, such a programme seemed to offer the opportunity to achieve a number of things:
- to improve my woeful command of the Nepali language. Foreign languages were never one of my strengths at school.
- to spend long enough within a community to get to know local people reasonably well, rather than leaving after a day or two, allowing me to have a greater understanding of Nepal and its people.
- to contribute something to a country which has given me so many good experiences in the past.
- to sample some activities which I had overlooked in the past, due to my concentration on trekking.
